A 13-member delegation from the Defence Service Command and Staff College of Zambia, led by Colonel Tyndall Hamane, visited the Ghana Army Headquarters on Monday, 29 September 2025, as part of a regional security study tour.
The delegation, which included officers from Malawi, Namibia and Zambia sought to deepen their understanding of the Ghana Army’s security cooperation initiatives aimed at promoting political stability and socio-economic development across the West African sub-region.
Brigadier General William Kwabiah, Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Operations and Training), welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu.
He underscored the importance of security management as a cornerstone of socio-economic progress and highlighted the Ghana Army’s historical role in ECOMOG, including its leadership and participation in peace support operations in Liberia and Sierra Leone.
The delegation also received a comprehensive presentation at the Hall of Generals, delivered by Colonel Richard Amedeka, Chief G3 (Operations) on “The Role of the Ghana Army in Regional Security Cooperation and its Contribution to Political and Socio-Economic Transformation.
” He outlined the Army’s efforts in peacebuilding, its contributions to democratic governance, the socio-economic benefits of its engagements, the challenges encountered, and strategies for strengthening regional partnerships.
He emphasized that Ghana’s security initiatives have not only helped restore peace but have also enhanced professional capacity, reinforced democratic institutions, and elevated the country’s global reputation.
In her response, Colonel Tyndall Hamane, head of the delegation, expressed profound gratitude to the Ghana Army High Command.
She commended the detailed insights shared during the visit, noting that the lessons learned would significantly inform the delegation’s professional roles and strengthen future contributions to regional peace and security.
