Pupils from Graceland Child Care School and Shapes and Colours Educational Centre visited 153 Armoured Regiment and the 156 Calvary Regiment on Monday 9 March 2026, to gain knowledge about the operations of the Ghana Army.
The visiting schools comprised 84 pupils and 5 teachers from Graceland Child Care School in Awutu Swedru, and 173 pupils guided by 21 teachers from Shapes and Colours Educational Centre of Tema Community 18.
The purpose of the visit was to familiarise the pupils with the roles, responsibilities, training requirement, and career opportunities within the Ghana Army, as well as to motivate and inspire them through interaction with Officers and soldiers of these units.
Speaking during the visit, the Officer Commanding the Recce and Surveillance Squadron of the 153 Armoured Regiment, Captain Benedicta Kafui Gavor, welcomed the pupils and briefed them on the history and roles of the Armoured Regiment.
She also explained the duties and responsibilities of soldiers and highlighted the importance of the regiment in maintaining national security. She further advised the pupils on key military values such as discipline, respect for authority, teamwork and leadership.
Captain Gavor further provided career guidance on enlistment and recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces, outlining the educational requirements and explaining safety procedures during the tour. She encouraged the pupils to follow safety rules, respect military equipment and property, and take their studies seriously in order to develop discipline and patriotism. The pupils were later taken through a display of some armoured vehicles, including the Cobra 1 and Cobra 2 Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs).
At the 156 Calvary Regiment, the Acting Second-in-Command, Captain Theophilus Osei, also welcomed and briefed them on the history of the Regiment. He emphasised the importance of discipline, respect for authority, teamwork and cooperation, while encouraging the pupils to focus on their studies.
The pupils were later taken around the Farrier Stand, Riding Stand and Saddlery Stand, where various equipment used in calvary operations were displayed.
