2 Infantry Battalion Holds 63rd Mascot Wreath Laying Ceremony

The 2 Infantry Battalion (2 Bn) of the Ghana Army has held its 63rd Mascot Wreath Laying Ceremony in honour of its deceased mascots on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, at the Mascot Cemetery, Myohaung Barracks.The ceremony, which is held annually, was a brief but solemn occasion dedicated to remembering and honouring the souls of the unit’s departed mascots, who symbolize the spirit and heritage of the Battalion.This year’s memorial service was commanded by Second Lieutenant (2Lt) Prince Akantogdaam. The parade comprised a contingent, cenotaph guards, wreath bearers, flag hoisters, the Unit Corps of Drums, and the current mascot, Staff Sergeant (S/Sgt) Charles II.The Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Philip Tetteh Nartey, who also served as the Guest of Honour, laid the first wreath on behalf of officers and soldiers of the Myohaung family. This was followed by the Civilian Administrative Personnel Officer (CAPO), Mr Ebenezer Adamu, who laid a wreath on behalf of Defence Civilian Staff. The final wreath was laid by the Battalion Magajia, Madam Bernice Akuaku, on behalf of wives and families.The mascot of the 2 Infantry Battalion is a spotless white ram christened 562016 Staff Sergeant Charles II, named after its donor, Sir Charles Noble Arden-Clarke, the last Governor of the then Gold Coast (now Ghana). The mascot represents the spirit and soul of the Battalion and symbolizes strength, pride, and unity within the unit. It inspires officers and soldiers to greater achievements and traditionally leads the Unit’s Corps of Drums during ceremonial parades both within and outside the Battalion.Staff Sergeant Charles II was promoted to its current rank on 15 May 2025 by the immediate past Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Edmund Nana Nyarko Osae.
