The Artillery Training School of the Ghana Armed Forces held a Handing and Taking Over Ceremony on Monday 12 January 2025, to officially transfer command from Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Patrick Atuiri to Lt Col Christopher Quaye at Akoefe in the Volta Region. The ceremony marked the formal assumption of command by Lt Col Christopher Quaye and reaffirmed the Ghana Armed Forces’ commitment to leadership continuity and professional excellence in military training.
In his handing-over address, the outgoing Commanding Officer, Lt Col Patrick Atuiri, expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve and highlighted the key achievements recorded during his tenure. These included the construction of a 60-seater lecture hall, a new cookhouse and dining hall, gender-sensitive washroom facilities, a school canteen, a sachet water production factory, and other infrastructure projects aimed at improving training delivery and personnel welfare.
Lt Col Atuiri further noted the successful introduction of maiden training programmes such as the Artillery Young Officers’ Course, Forward Observation Skills Training, and the Land Navigation Course, as well as the ongoing domestication of artillery training manuals.
He expressed appreciation to the Military High Command, the 16 Artillery Brigade, the Ghana Artillery Officers Association, corporate partners, traditional authorities, and the officers and men of the School for their unwavering support throughout his tenure.
Delivering an address as the Guest of Honour, the Commander of the Army Training Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Joshua Amanor, commended Lt Col Atuiri for his visionary leadership and the remarkable transformation of the training school.
He stated that the infrastructural and training developments achieved under his command had significantly enhanced learning conditions and professional standards at the institution.
Brig Gen Amanor urged personnel of the School to extend their full support to the new Commanding Officer to sustain and build upon the progress made.
The ceremony was attended by the Commander of the 16 Artillery Brigade, Brig Gen Selorm Kwesi Amengor, the President and members of the Ghana Artillery Officers Association, Defence Civilian Staff, family members, traditional authorities, and friends of the School.
