The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of the Jamaica Defence Force, Vice Admiral Antonette Wemyss-Gorman, paid an operational visit to the military base at Luana, St. Elizabeth Parish, Jamaica, on Tuesday, 20 January 2025, where personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) are jointly located.
The visit aimed to familiarise the CDS and her accompanying staff officers with ongoing projects being executed across communities in St. Elizabeth Parish, notably in Middle Quarters and Black River, as part of reconstruction efforts after Hurricane Melissa.
During the visit, the CDS interacted directly with troops on site to obtain first-hand information on the scope, progress and impact of the works being carried out.
The Commander of the Ghana Engineering Reconstruction Team, Colonel Emmanuel Asia, briefed the CDS and her staff officers, outlining the team’s mandate, completed tasks, ongoing projects and planned activities.
He highlighted the collaborative efforts among Ghanaian, Jamaican and Guyanese troops and reaffirmed the team’s commitment to supporting affected communities.
As a mark of appreciation, Colonel Asia presented a commemorative plaque to the CDS in recognition of her leadership and ongoing support for the joint reconstruction mission.
Also present during the visit were the Brigade Commander of the Support Brigade, Brigadier O’Neil Bogle; the Commanding Officer of the 1 Engineer Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Haughton-James; and other key staff officers from the participating forces.
