Headquarters Central Command of the Ghana Army has organised an Inter-Unit Drill and Bugle Competition for units under the Command on Friday 20 September 2024 at the Agyemang-Prempeh square, Idris Barracks, Kumasi. The competing units drawn from 3 Infantry Battalion (3Bn), 4 Infantry Battalion (4Bn), 154 Armoured Regiment (154 Arnd Regt) and Headquarters Central Command Camp thrilled spectators with a spectacular drill and bugle calls display to the admiration of all.The General Officer Commanding Central Command, Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku in his opening remarks indicated that the purpose of the competition was to test the level of confidence amongst troops and their ability to timely execute words of command in a smart and uniformed fashion. He added that it was aimed to achieve unity among units, foster esprit de corps and pride in the Command. The Guest of honour, Major General Richard Kwame Opoku-Adusei (Rtd) in his remarks mentioned that drill is an important tool in the military that must not be relegated in units’ daily routine and therefore urged that unit commanders do all it takes to promote it. He added that Muster Parade, Guard Mounting, and Funeral Drills must be positively exploited to ensure that Officers and Soldiers appreciate their values.Maj Gen Opoku-Adusei thanked the GOC and his Staff Officers for organising the programme and also commended the participants for a wonderful display of drills.He used the occasion to remind personnel to exhibit high sense of professionalism in the up coming 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. He charged them to avoid any act of partisanship, favouritism, partiality and other forms of negative tendencies that have the potential of dragging the country into chaos. At the end of the competition 154 Armd Regt emerged the winner in the drill competition, they took away an Aboboya tricycle, a cash of Gh¢12,000, a trophy and a certificate of participation. The Hq Central Command Camp took the second position and they received a Refrigerator, a cash of Gh¢5,000, a trophy and a certificate of participation. Third position went to 4Bn and they also took away a Refrigerator, a cash prize of Gh¢3,000, a trophy and a certificate. The fourth position went to 3Bn and they also received a trophy, a cash prize of Gh¢1, 000 and certificate of participation.
