The Northern Command of the Ghana Army has intensified security operations in the Northeast and Upper East Regions as part of broader measures to restore peace and stability in the area.As part of the enhanced security strategy, high-powered drones have been deployed alongside an increased military presence in Bawku, Binduri, Nalerigu, and surrounding communities.
These efforts are aimed at detecting potential threats for swift response, deterring the activities of armed groups, and preventing incidents that could lead to violence or reprisal attacks while the nation awaits the outcome of Otumfuo’s mediation efforts to restore calm in Bawku.
Speaking to the media, the General Officer Commanding the Northern Command, Brigadier General Worlanyo Agbebo, emphasized that the military will continue to maintain dominance in the Bawku area through robust foot and mobile patrols, as well as strategically mounted checkpoints to screen vehicles and protect civilians.
He cautioned residents against interfering with military operations, stressing that any attacks on security personnel would trigger an appropriate and measured response.
At a meeting involving the Bawku Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Isaac Azunaba, representatives of the two factions, and members of the Bawku Inter-ethnic Peace Committee, stakeholders agreed that youth and opinion leaders must encourage their people to accept the outcome of the mediation process, lay down their arms, and coexist peacefully.
The GOC further urged community leaders to advise the youth against taking the law into their own hands and to instead arrest and hand over any offenders to the appropriate authorities.
He appealed for the continued support of the public to enhance the military’s efforts toward restoring stability in the region.
