The Ghana Army has concluded a four-day retreat for Formation Commanders and Principal Staff Officers, led by the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, in Akuse, Eastern Region.
The retreat, which began on Tuesday, 16 September 2025, brought the commanders and staff officers together to address issues pertaining to operations, logistics, and administration.
In his opening address, Major General Gbetanu called for stronger alignment between strategy, operations, and administration, describing them as the pillars of a resilient and capable force. He stressed that discipline, loyalty, integrity, and professionalism must remain the Army’s foundation.
A highlight of the retreat was a panel session led by retired generals, who shared their experiences and offered advice to guide serving officers.
The deliberations led to the drawing of a new Strategic Plan for 2026–2029, which will focus on modernization, personnel welfare, training, and strengthening both regional and international partnerships.
Major General Gbetanu said the plan marks the beginning of a new phase of transformation for the Ghana Army.
Closing the retreat on Friday, 19 September, the COAS praised the openness and camaraderie shown throughout the sessions. He announced that the retreat will now be held annually to review progress and sustain momentum.
“This gathering has harmonized perspectives, produced solutions, and laid the foundation for a future-ready Army,” he stated.
He extended his gratitude to the Volta River Authority for providing their facilities for the retreat at no cost and supporting in diverse ways towards the successful completion of the retreat.
