The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Worlanyo Agbebo has commended participants of the Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Tactical Course 1-25 (BNTC 1-25) for their resilience and professionalism throughout the training.
Speaking at the closing ceremony held at the Northern Command Headquarters in Tamale, Brig Gen Agbebo described the course as a critical step in developing the tactical proficiency of young soldiers in line with the Chief of the Army Staff’s vision of “Professionalism and Combat Readiness.” He noted that the decentralisation of the course in 2019 was a strategic decision to address the growing number of soldiers yet to undergo such training in the Ghana Army.
The 16 weeks of intensive training, including conventional warfare, counter-insurgency, counter-terrorism and internal security operations, as well as jungle orientation at the Jungle Warfare School in Achiase, has equipped the participants to serve as effective trainers and leaders in their respective units.
Touching on regional security, the GOC highlighted the security situation in the Northern part of Ghana and the terrorist threat from the Sahel Region, stressing the need for constant training and preparation of troops to enable effective handling of such situations. He called for heightened vigilance and commitment among troops, particularly in light of the on-going conflict in Bawku.
Brig Gen Agbebo urged the participants to put the knowledge acquired into practice in their units. He further charged them to maintain high levels of discipline, advising them to desist from social vices such as betting and fraud among others.
The GOC also expressed appreciation to the instructors for their support in making the course a success.
