HQ Northern Command Holds Closing Ceremony for Tygra APC Orientation Cadre

The Headquarters Northern Command has marked a successful completion of a five-week Tygra Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) Orientation Cadre to enhance operational efficiency and combat readiness. The ceremony which took place on Friday, 7 March 2025, at Headquarters Northern Command, crowned what commenced on Tuesday 28 January 2025, with a total of 58 Soldiers drawn from 10 Mechanised Battalion, 11 Mechanised Battalion and 12 Mechanised Battalion.

The cadre was designed to equip personnel with the skills necessary to effectively operate the Tygra APCs deployed in the Command’s area of responsibility. The cadre featured both theoretical and practical sessions to shape participants’ driving skills with series of simulated exercises to prepare participants for real-world scenarios.

Addressing the participants, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei, stated that, the importance of training on the APCs and guns are geared towards increasing troops’ proficiency on the employment of Tygra APCs in the areas of insecurity in the Northern Sector.  The GOC further reminded participants that, Military High Command prioritises troops’ safety in all operations as well as the security of the general public especially in Bawku and its environs.

Brig Gen Tei laid emphasis on the use of the APC saying, ‘the APCs are Operational Vehicles and are not to be used for Administrative errands. Seek authority prior to the operational usage of the APCs just as all service vehicles and stick to the Armed Forces required speed limit.’ He informed the participants that, approval had been given for personnel of 12 Mechanised Battalion on the cadre who are deployed in other Units to be attached to 11 Mechanised Battalion for Command and Operation MAIDA BUURI duties.

He advised participants to use the knowledge and skills acquired in defensive driving to the benefit of  both themselves and the Ghana Armed Forces and always remain professional in their craft.

The Course Commander Major Daniel Ayota expressed his gratitude to the GOC for giving them the opportunity and support to run the cadre. He congratulated the participants on the successful completion of the cadre and urged them to give out their best as they depart to their various Units.
