The 155 Armoured Regiment based in Damango in the Savannah Region has held a handing/taking over ceremony to bid farewell to Colonel Philemon Adotey Hoffman, the outgoing Commanding Officer (CO). The event which was held on Thursday 23 January 2025 was climaxed with the West Africa Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA).
Another highlight of the Ceremony was the commissioning of projects; including a Regimental Aid Post to cater for the health needs of troops, an ultra-modern Post Exchange (PX) Complex comprising a Barbering Salon, Laundry, Tailoring Shop, a Grocery Store, Mini Bar and the launch of a dance band named the ‘Northern Irons Band’. Other projects completed during the tenure of the outgoing Commanding Officer include a Pergola for troop’s relaxation, Petrol, Oil and Lubricants (POL) point office structure, kitchen renovation and establishment of a Regiment Kraal.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General Frank Nartey Tei, who spoke on behalf of the Guest of Honour, the Chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, highlighted the significant contributions of the 155 Armoured Regiment to the security of the Northern Sector and the Region at large particularly, during the recent elections. He also commended troops for their effective collaboration with other security services in addressing the security concerns in the Region. He attributed these achievements to the selfless leadership of Colonel Hoffman and the dedication of the Regiment's troops.
Brigadier General Tei congratulated the Outgoing CO for his well-deserved promotion and commended him for his role in the growth of the unit and his efforts in spearheading the projects that were commissioned.
The GOC praised the professionalism, discipline and commitment of the troops, urging them to extend the same support to the incoming CO, Lieutenant Colonel Peter Afreh. He charged the incoming CO to build on the solid foundation laid by his predecessors.
He noted the accommodation challenges confronting troops and assured them of the resolve of Military High Command to address them. He therefore announced the two dormitory accommodation blocks currently under construction and expected to be completed within the next few months to ease the accommodation constraints.
In his farewell address, Colonel Hoffman thanked the Almighty God for the successful completion of his tenure. He also extended his gratitude to the Military High Command for their support. He welcomed the incoming CO and urged all ranks and various sponsors to support his command for the success of the Regiment.
Present at the event were the 6 Garrison Commander and Base Commander Air Force Base Tamale, Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai, the Deputy Commander 15 Armoured Brigade, Colonel Nkrane Mensah-Yawson who represented the Commander 15 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ben Gah, Senior Officers, Commanding Officers, Officers, Heads of the Security Services in the Savannah Region, Soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff, traditional rulers, families, and friends of the Regiment.
