2 Infantry Battalion Climaxes the Year 2025 with WASSA

The 2 Infantry Battalion (2BN) of the Ghana Army climaxed the year 2025 with West African Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) on Thursday 15 January 2026, at the Apambire Square, Myohaung Barracks, Takoradi.The event, themed “Celebration of Unity of Purpose and Service,” brought together officers, soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff (DCS), and families. Also present were representatives from sister security services, corporate organisations, and traditional leaders to celebrate and to create an opportunity to strengthen camaraderie, recognise professionalism and commitment, and promote unity within the Battalion and among its stakeholders.The Guest of Honour, the Western North Regional Minister, Honourable Wilbert Petty Brentum, applauded personnel for their dedication, professionalism and loyalty to duty, even in the face of challenges. He emphasised the need to continuously strengthen civil-military relations in the Western and Western North Regions, which would create a more collaborative, supportive and conducive environment for socioeconomic development and security. In his welcome address, the Commanding Officer of 2BN, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Philip Tetteh Nartey, commended personnel for their dedication, professionalism and devotion to duty. He noted that although discipline in the unit was satisfactory, it needed to be further strengthened to maintain the battalion's reputation as a well-regimented and disciplined unit.Lt Col Nartey also noted that loyalty and professionalism were hallmarks of excellent service; hence, renewed discipline, stronger teamwork, improved standards, and a shared commitment to improvement would propel the unit to success.The event saw the presentation of awards to deserving personnel, cultural performances by Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, Support, and Headquarters Companies, and by Defence Civilian Staff, and poetry recitals by students of Myohaung Barracks Basic School. There was also a Stripping and Assembling of Weapons competition, with Charlie Company emerging as the winners.
