The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Central Command, Brigadier General Michael Kwadwo Opoku, together with the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 4 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Sarfo Kantanka Dapaah, commissioned an ultramodern gymnasium for personnel at Complex Barracks in Kumasi on Tuesday, 13 May 2025.
The facility, christened the Amponsem-Boateng Recreational Centre, comprises a modern gymnasium, an anteroom for junior ranks, accommodation for guards, a bar, and an upper terrace for social events.
In his remarks, the CO, Lt Col SK Dapaah stated that the original idea was conceived by the late Commanding Officer, Lt Col Richard Amponsem-Boateng. He had initially planned to convert the old Matambo structure into a recreational facility to enhance the physical fitness of personnel. Unfortunately, he passed away before the idea could be realized. Lt Col Dapaah said he decided to continue the project in honour of his predecessor’s vision, with the goal of improving the well-being and physical readiness of personnel.
The GOC, Brig Gen MK Opoku expressed his gratitude to the CO and all stakeholders who contributed to the successful completion of the facility. He noted that the gym was established to meet the physical needs of personnel and urged them to fully utilize its offerings.
