The 6 Garrison in collaboration with the Yakubu Tali International Airport Tamale has conducted an Emergency Evacuation Exercise codenamed ‘Exercise TAHABU’ within the premises of the airport. The Exercise, which was part of the airport’s Safety Week Celebration was held on Tuesday, 26 November 2024.This activity aligns with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Annex 14, Chapter 9, which mandates all airports to organize full-scale Emergency Evacuation Exercises at intervals not exceeding two years. This year's Exercise simulated the detection of an explosive device at the terminal. The Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Regiment was tasked with neutralizing the explosive, demonstrating swift and precise operational capacity.Additionally, the Special Task Unit of the Air Force Base Tamale with the Special Forces of the 69 Airborne Force and the 6 Infantry Battalion were deployed to conduct cordon, search and a comprehensive sweep of the terminal to ensure the area was free from explosives and any terrorist threats. The Exercise which also saw the involvement of other security services such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service and Ghana Ambulance Service, tested the coordination and response capabilities of the various security agencies and underscored the airport’s commitment to ensuring passenger safety and compliance with international aviation safety standards.
