Army HQ Conducts Operational Readiness Assessment of HQ Southern Command

A team of Staff Officers from Army Headquarters led by Col Emmanuel Gyadu, Chief G3 (Operations) has conducted an Operational Readiness Assessment Visit (ORAV) at Headquarters Southern Command on Tuesday 25 February 2025.The exercise forms part of measures by the Ghana Army to ascertain operational readiness and efficiency at the command and unit level, to ensure battle preparedness.It was also to inspect unit arms and ammunition, assess troops barracks security drills, office management, personnel administration and inspection of unit records and archives to help identify flaws and setbacks to guide higher headquarters on future policies and plans. Additionally, the exercise was conducted to assess the serviceability of unit equipment and stores, troops’ understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), intelligence gathering, guidelines and instructions on alarm schemes and Internal Security (IS) operations.General Officer Commanding Southern Command, Brig Gen Samuel Yeboah Asare and Staff Officers of the Command including the Command Operations Officer (COO), Col Benjamin Boamah, the Command Logistics Officer (CLO) Col Franklin Gyamerah-Amoako and the Deputy Command Operations Officer, Lt Col Prince Owusu hosted the team and gave an in-depth brief on the organisation and role, activities and responsibilities of the Command, as well as achievements and some challenges of the Command. Other members of the assessment team included Col Samuel Alemawor, Operations Officer, 17 Signal Brigade, Col Kofi Obiri-Yeboah, Chief G5 (Plans), Col Eric Tenadu, Chief G2 (Intelligence), Maj HK Gamor, SO3 G4, ( Logistics), and Maj I Annor, Production Officer, Base Workshop. As part of the exercise, they inspected the arms and ammunition stores, vehicles and troops’ response to alarm schemes.Operational readiness assessment visits are conducted periodically in all military commands and units to ascertain the overall battle preparedness and effectiveness of personnel and other logistics deployed in a unit.
