The Army Headquarters G2 branch has closed its 4-week Advanced Non-Commissioned Officers Intelligence Course 1-2025 at the 5 Infantry Battalion on Friday 5 September 2025.
The course which commenced on Monday 11 August 2025 was aimed at upgrading the intelligence tradecraft, exposing participants to information gathering and analysis, enhancing their briefing and report writing skills, upgrading participants awareness of emergency security threats and improving their intelligence collection skills in support of tactical units.
The Guest of honour for the closing ceremony, Deputy Chief Staff Officer in charge of policy and planning at Army Headquarters, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) William Abotsi, in his remarks on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, described the occasion as both a privilege and an honour. He noted that the completion of the course marked not only the end of weeks of hard work but also the beginning of a new chapter in the professional lives of the participants.
Brig Gen Abotsi highlighted the importance of the course, which was designed to strengthen the intelligence capacity of the personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). He emphasized that the training balanced theoretical knowledge with practical experience, covering advanced topics such as intelligence in asymmetric warfare, counterterrorism strategies, multi-agency cooperation, and civil-military relations. He commended the participants for their discipline, determination and commitment, which have earned them a place as pioneers of the significant program.
He also acknowledged the complex security environment facing the nation, referencing longstanding conflicts in Bawku and Yendi, as well as ongoing threats like terrorism, arms trafficking, cyber intrusions and disinformation campaigns. Brig Gen Abotsi stressed that intelligence is the first line of defence against these challenges, and the skills acquired during the course are vital for safeguarding the country’s security and stability.
Brig Gen Abotsi encouraged all women to compete equally with their peers in future courses, reflecting the GAF’s commitment to gender equality. He reminded all graduates that the real test lies ahead in the field, where their ability to apply what they have learned will define their true potential as intelligence professionals.
