The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Major General (Maj Gen) William Agyapong, has paid his maiden visit to the Army Headquarters on Wednesday, 2 April 2025. The visit was for the CDS to gather firsthand information on administrative and operational issues as well as discuss the wellbeing of troops.
The CDS was welcomed with a special guard of honour on arrival at the Army Headquarters, after which he had a discussion with the Chief of the Army Staff, Maj Gen Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu.
Maj Gen Gbetanu welcomed the CDS and his entourage to the Army Headquarters and updated them on the operational, logistical and administrative issues concerning the Army. He also discussed some challenges and efforts being made to surmount them.
The COAS also used the occasion to brief the CDS on the upcoming African Land Forces Summit, which the Ghana Army will be co-hosting with the US Army from Monday 7 to Thursday 10 April. He indicated that the Summit aims to identify areas of cooperation between African Land Forces amidst emerging security challenges.
Major General Agyapong thanked the COAS for the warm reception and congratulated him on his appointment and promotion. He expressed confidence in the COAS' ability to lead the Army, assuring him of his support whenever needed.
Also, as part of the visit, the CDS inspected the ongoing Army Headquarters Office complex project and pledged his support towards its completion.
As a token of appreciation, the COAS presented a plaque and a Ghana Army customized Kente stole to the CDS.
