The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, commissioned a state-of-the-art water tank farm at the Duala Barracks, Burma Camp, on Tuesday, 4 March 2025.
The project which comprises three mechanized boreholes, three separate water tank farms, 16 water distribution points, and 72 water taps spread across the Duala Barracks falls under the COAS's flagship Quick Impact Project, aimed at addressing severe water shortage challenges faced by personnel living in the Duala Barracks.
In a welcome address, the Second-in-Command of the 41 Defence Signal Regiment, Major (Maj) Bismark Atimbiok, said the Duala Barracks which is one of the most densely populated barracks in Burma Camp has experienced acute water challenges for over two decades. He noted that previous efforts made to improve the situation proved futile due to the extent of damaged sections of the major pipelines that supply water to the barracks.
He therefore expressed gratitude to Lt Gen Onwona for his generous support and determination in ensuring the project's success, indicating that it would significantly ease the severe water challenges faced by personnel and their families in the barracks. The Guest of Honour, Lt Gen Onwona in his address, emphasized his commitment to providing safe and reliable water for personnel, highlighting the challenges they faced due to inaccessible water, which resulted in reliance on expensive water tankers.
He elaborated that, the water supply project which features multiple large water storage tanks, collecting and storing large volumes of water would provide a readily accessible water and serve as a sustainable water system to enhance their well being.
He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the Managing Director of RD AQUA
Lt Gen Onwona further assured of the Army Headquarters’ support to all other projects aimed at enhancing the living conditions of all personnel to enable the Ghana Army carry out it's constitutional mandate effectively.
