The Commander, Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Joshua Amanor, has officially opened the Military Skills Validation Training (MSVT) at the Battle Training Camp, Bundase, on Monday 16 February 2026.
He also used the occasion to close the 3-week Mission Leadership Training for Key Appointment Holders of the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), Ghana Battalion 5 (GHANBATT 5), UNISFA Ghana Medical 5 (GHANMED 5), ECOWAS Mission in the Gambia, Ghana Company 10 (ECOMIG COY 10), ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau, Ghana Company 5 (ESSMGB GHANCOY 5), and the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).
Delivering his address, Brig Gen Amanor expressed profound gratitude to the Army Peace Operations Training School (APOTS). He emphasised that the school’s role as a strategic training hub is key to ensuring that troops remain elite, disciplined and fully prepared for international peacekeeping duties.
He described the 7-week MSVT as the ‘core blueprint’ for pre-deployment preparation, aligned with United Nations and African Union training doctrines. The curriculum is designed to be as practical as possible, focusing on essential tasks such as the Protection of Civilians (POC), complex transport operations, and navigating specific security conditions in theatres such as Guinea-Bissau and Gambia.
Brig Gen Amanor urged all participants to approach the training with the utmost seriousness, stressing that the training will protect them and enable mission success. He reminded troops to bring their past experience into the classroom while remaining open to updated procedures. Key Appointment Holders were awarded certificates for completing the first phase of the training.
Those present at the ceremony included the Commander of the Army Peace Operations Training School, Col Reuben Dela Klutse; the Commanding Officer for UNISFA GHANMED 5, Col Kwame Acheampong Adomako; the Commanding Officer of UNISFA GHANBATT 5, Lt Col Prince Nadom; the Officer Commanding ESSMGB, Lt Col Benjamin Danful, and Key Appointment Holders for the missions.
