ECOMIG GHANCOY 9 Conducts Medical Outreach in Kanuma

The ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia, Ghana Company 9 (ECOMIG GHANCOY), has conducted a medical outreach programme in Kanuma and its surrounding communities on Saturday 17 January 2026, providing healthcare to residents.

Speaking at the Kanuma Community Centre on behalf of the Company Commander, the Second in Command, Major Abdul Samed Vincent Dawuda, emphasised GHANCOY 9’s broader mission. He stated that the medical outreach aimed to bring healthcare closer to the people, highlighting benefits such as early disease detection, health education, and building of community trust. He stressed that the contingent’s role goes beyond peacekeeping to actively promoting the health and well-being of the local population.

The medical team, led by Capt Albert Kwarteng, screened approximately 600 residents, providing a range of services, including blood pressure checks, blood glucose testing, full blood count tests, body mass index assessments, medical consultations, and treatment.

Additional services provided included health education and awareness, physiotherapy education on proper back care and the management of related conditions, disease prevention and management, referrals to health facilities, the distribution of medicines, and community engagement.

On behalf of the community leadership, Mr Ousman Keita, representing Akalo Momodou Manneh, expressed profound gratitude to ECOMIG GHANCOY 9 for its intervention, noting that the outreach had significantly boosted local health efforts.

A local health worker, Mr Ismail Jabang, along with other colleagues, thanked the contingent for its support, stating that the initiative would significantly improve the health of the people of Kanuma and its surrounding communities. He noted that the community would remain forever grateful to the GHANCOY 9 medical team.

The outreach concluded successfully, with GHANCOY 9 promising to return for future engagements. The people of Kanuma expressed joy and appreciation for the free healthcare services provided.
