The Ghana Army School of Ammunition and Explosives (GASAE) has successfully completed a three-week European Union–sponsored Ammunition Management and Technology Course on Thursday, 4 December 2025.
The training aimed to enhance the Ghana Armed Forces’ (GAF) capabilities in modern ammunition storage, handling, safety, and stockpile management.
The training was facilitated by French instructors under the EU Security and Defence Initiative in the Gulf of Guinea. Modules covered hazard classification, storage protocols, explosives safety, transportation procedures, physical security measures, and ordnance accountability—all aimed at safeguarding personnel, installations, and vital national assets.
During the closing ceremony, the Guest of Honour and Commander of the Army Training Command (ATRAC), Brigadier General Joshua Amanor, emphasized the importance of effective ammunition management in supporting safe, reliable, and successful military operations.
He commended GASAE for delivering a comprehensive and professionally organized training program that equips personnel with the technical expertise necessary to uphold international ammunition safety standards.
Brigadier General Amanor encouraged the graduates to apply their newly acquired knowledge as subject-matter experts within their units. He highlighted the importance of enforcing proper ammunition-handling procedures, maintaining accountability, and addressing unsafe practices. He stressed that as the Ghana Armed Forces expands its operational footprint and establishes Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) nationwide, such technical proficiency is increasingly valuable.
The EU’s Defence Attaché to Ghana, Lieutenant Colonel Ansgar Glatzel, representing the European Union, reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to supporting the GAF’s operational effectiveness. Lt Col Glatzel outlined ongoing assistance, including the provision of armoured vehicles, drones, communication equipment, and specialized training programs.
He expressed the EU’s continued readiness to collaborate with Ghana in strengthening defence capabilities and promoting regional security. He also praised the dedication of the course participants and highlighted the long standing partnership between the EU and Ghana in areas of defence cooperation, capacity building, and peace and security initiatives.
All 21 participants successfully completed the program, receiving certificates of achievement. Staff Sergeant Richard Owusu was recognized as the Overall Best Participant for his outstanding performance. The French training team has been recognized for their professionalism, dedication, and valuable contributions throughout the course.
