GOC Southern Command Opens RDF Induction Training

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, Brig Gen Isaac Nicholas Paintsil has officially opened a two-week induction training course for the Rapid Deployment Force (RDF) company deployed to the Command Headquarters on Wednesday 16 July 2025.Brig Gen IN Paintsil in his remarks indicated that training remains the bedrock of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and thus, it is imperative for troops to train or be trained at all times to enable them know what to do when confronted with security challenges.He stated that the purpose of the RDF is to be a reserve force at the behest of the GOC, ready to move at the shortest possible time to react to operational emergency situations, hence the need for troops to train in readiness for the tasks ahead of their 6 months tour of duty at the Command Headquarters.Gen Paintsil advised troops to remain professional and highly motivated at all times to help Higher Command achieve success for the GAF and the country at large. He also admonished troops to abide by rules and regulations and desist from acts that tarnish the image of the force, including illegal operations, body guarding wealthy civilians, land guard duties, robbery and recruitment fraud.The training is designed to equip the RDF company with the requisite skills and capabilities to operate effectively when called upon to respond to any form of crisis or security situation in the Southern Command Area of Operational Responsibility (AOR).The two-week course will cover lessons on rules of engagement, cordon and search, weapon training, voice procedure, basic first aid, physical training and crowd dispersal amongst others. A Basic Fitness Test (BFT) and Test of Elementary Training (TOET), will be conducted as part of the course, to assess troops’ knowledge and fitness state for the tour of duty.
