GPHA Delegation Visits Defence Mechanical Transport Battalion

A delegation from the Ghana Ports and Harbour Authority (GPHA), led by their Transport Manager, Mr Asafo Adjei, paid a working visit to the Defence Mechanical Transport Battalion (DEF MT BN) in Burma Camp on Thursday, 11 September 2025.

The visit aimed to engage with DEF MT BN personnel, understand their roles and best practices, and explore potential recommendations for GPHA’s organizational improvements.

Commanding Officer of DEF MT BN, Lieutenant Colonel Kojo Abakah Quansah, welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for their visit. In his briefing, he explained that the Battalion is structured into a Headquarters Company comprising the Pay Cell, Quartermaster’s Cell, Petroleum, Oils and Lubricants (POL) Cell, and the Service Bay.

This organization allows the unit to prioritize transport tasks, manage transport work tickets efficiently, and optimize transport POL management.

Highlighting recommendations, the Commanding Officer proposed enhanced joint training and exercises, improved emergency preparedness, stronger military-civil collaboration, policy and strategic alignment, and technology integration.

In closing, he thanked the delegation for selecting their unit for the visit, indicating that the gesture would encourage the Battalion to work more effectively and promote strong cooperation between both organizations.

The Mechanical Transport Officer of DEF MT BN, Lieutenant Samira Anune Seidu, in her presentation also outlined the Battalion’s primary roles, which include the movement of personnel and materiel through lines of communication, courier services to outstation supply depots, and transport assistance to civil organizations such as the State Protocol Office, DVLA, Zoom Lion Company, and civilians during natural disasters.

Mr Asafo Adjei on behalf of the delegation expressed gratitude to the Commanding Officer and personnel of DEF MT BN for sharing their roles and practices. He stressed that the knowledge gained would serve as a valuable guide for GPHA’s operations.
