Headquarters Southern Command Marks WASSA 2025

Headquarters Southern Command has celebrated the 2025 edition of the annual West African Soldiers Social Activities (WASSA) at Kpeshie Ridge on Thursday, 18 December 2025.The event provided an opportunity for officers, soldiers, and defence civilian staff to come together in a relaxed atmosphere to unwind from the stresses of the year, reflect on activities undertaken in 2025, and chart the way forward for the coming year.The Guest of Honour, Major General Dr Sampson Kudjoe Adeti (Rtd), a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command, commended all ranks for their professionalism and unwavering dedication to duty throughout the year. He highlighted the Command’s exemplary performance in operations such as Operations PEACE TRAIL, CALM LIFE, HALT, MOTHERLAND, AHODWO, MAIDA BUURI, among others, noting their significant contribution to national development and internal security.Maj Gen Adeti (Rtd) underscored the importance of training as the backbone of any effective armed force. He stressed that exercises such as KULLUM SHIRRI and TIGER’S PATH, conducted during the year, as well as the upcoming Inter-Unit Drill Competition, demonstrate the Command’s commitment to operational readiness. According to him, such activities are critical to enhancing agility, alertness, and combat proficiency, ensuring Southern Command remains prepared to address any threat to Ghana’s peace and stability.He described Southern Command as a home of excellence, discipline, and quiet courage, and noted that its continued progress reflects the collective efforts of successive generations of leadership who have built strong foundations for the future. He expressed appreciation to the GOC, Brigadier General Isaac Nicholas Paintsil, the WASSA Planning Committee, and the entire “Tarantula Family” for successfully rounding off the year, and urged the Command to sustain the momentum and remain a source of pride for the Ghana Army.In his remarks, the GOC Southern Command, Brig Gen Isaac Nicholas Paintsil, praised officers, soldiers, and defence civilian staff for their selflessness, courage, and resilience, which contributed to the Command’s successes in 2025. He urged troops to remain disciplined, fearless, and professional in the discharge of their duties, and cautioned against behaviours that could undermine the image of the Command and the Ghana Army.Brig Gen Paintsil also expressed gratitude to benevolent individuals and corporate organisations for their continuous support and partnership with the Command, noting that such collaborations have yielded mutual benefits.As part of the celebrations, hardworking soldiers and defence civilian staff were presented with awards in recognition of their outstanding performance during the year.The WASSA celebrations were preceded by fun games on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, including a two-kilometre walk through the Whistler and Wajir Barracks area, a volleyball competition, and other tabletop games.
