HQ Northern Command closes course on Prevention of Recruitment and use of children in Armed Violence

The Headquarters Northern Command on Friday, 5 September 2025, held a closing ceremony for Training of Trainers Course on the Prevention of Recruitment and Use of Children in Armed Violence.   The two-week training, organised by the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security, provided participants with both theoretical and practical lessons in areas such as the identification and prevention of child recruitment, support for vulnerable children and their communities, and advocacy for stronger policies and effective enforcement. At the closing ceremony, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command Brigadier General Worlanyo Agbebo in his address,  commended the participants for their commitment to the training and described them as “champions of children’s rights.” He noted that the course was designed to strengthen the capacity of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and Sister Security Services in dealing with children in conflict and violent communities.  “You have been equipped with the tools to identify and prevent child recruitment, support vulnerable children and their communities, and advocate for stronger policies and effective enforcement,” the GOC said. He urged participants to share their knowledge, develop strategies, and remain steadfast in safeguarding the innocence and potential of children. The GOC also expressed appreciation to the Dallaire Institute for Children, Peace and Security for their invaluable role in making the programme possible and acknowledged the longstanding cooperation between Ghana and Canada, describing it as a significant contribution to global peace and security. He further thanked the Ghana Police Service and Ghana Immigration Service for participating in the training. The Special Military Advisor to the Dallaire Institute, Major General William Omane-Agyekum (Rtd), in his remarks, congratulated the facilitators and participants for successfully completing the training, highlighting the discipline and dedication demonstrated throughout the course. He encouraged them to continue learning, improving and networking in their various fields of service.
