Infantry Soldier Career Training Team Sensitises 1 Infantry Battalion on New Career Policy

The Infantry Soldier Career Training Team conducted a sensitisation session for personnel of the 1 Infantry Battalion on the newly introduced Infantry Soldier Career Training Policy on Tuesday 24 February 2026, at the Pentecost Worship Centre, Michel Camp. The session was part of a nationwide initiative to educate infantry units on a structured, merit-based career progression framework that enhances professionalism and operational readiness within the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Team was led by Colonel Iddrisu Abdallah Salifu, Deputy Commander at the Army Training Command, who clarified that the new policy aims to streamline and formalise career advancement processes within the infantry. He noted that, although previous courses existed, the revised framework explicitly sets out mandatory training requirements linked directly to promotions and leadership appointments. He emphasised that the policy aims to eliminate perceptions of favouritism by establishing a transparent, performance-driven system.

Colonel Salifu described the policy as a vital investment in the Army’s future preparedness, highlighting that modern military personnel require highly trained, disciplined, and competent soldiers. He stated that the structured framework ensures that each infantry soldier advances through clearly defined training stages to develop tactical competence, leadership capacity, and physical endurance. This sensitisation forms part of a broader modernisation initiative by the Ghana Armed Forces to standardise training, institutionalise merit-based progression, and strengthen the Army’s long-term operational effectiveness.

During the presentation, Lieutenant Colonel Tweneboa Kodua of the Army Combat Training School emphasised that the policy aims to facilitate continuous professional development throughout a soldier’s career. He explained that the first three levels primarily target infantry soldiers, while the fourth level is designed to identify and prepare personnel of high professional standing for senior leadership roles. The policy is scheduled for implementation in June and includes explicit timelines for completing the requisite courses. It emphasises achieving minimum performance standards to qualify for instructional roles and mid-level appointments, thereby ensuring that only competent, well-prepared personnel assume leadership and training responsibilities.

The Commanding Officer of 1 Infantry Battalion,  Lt Col Frank Adams, expressed appreciation for the comprehensive presentation by the visiting team. He regarded the initiative as a positive development that would foster a fair and equitable environment for all soldiers and significantly enhance the battalion’s professional competence. He assured the delegation of the unit’s full commitment to adopting and integrating the new career framework.
