The Chief Staff Officer (CSO) at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Atogbakoga Alobawone has officially announced the commencement of the Operational Intelligence Course Upgrade 1-2025 on Monday, 17 February, 2025, at the 5 Infantry Battalion lecture hall in Burma Camp.
This two-week course, featuring 20 participants from the three Services of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), aims to enhance operational effectiveness by providing the latest techniques and best practices. Participants are expected to develop skills to identify patterns for analysis and draw conclusions that aid decision-making, information collection, briefing, and report writing.
Brigadier General Alobawone, on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, congratulated the participants on their nominations. He emphasized that this course would improve their tradecraft as intelligence staff and enhance their awareness of emerging security threats, enabling them to contribute significantly to the GAF.
He encouraged punctuality, open-mindedness, and collaboration among participants to achieve the course's objectives, emphasing that, the knowledge and skills gained are expected to positively impact the operational capabilities of both the Ghana Army and GAF as a whole.
He also expressed his gratitude to the Southern European Task Force Africa (SETAF-AF) and the Office for Security Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy for their ongoing support to Ghana and GAF. He acknowledged SETAF-AF's tireless efforts in making this program a reality and noted that their dedication continues to strengthen GAF’s capabilities in the region.
Chief John McCarthy, the representative of SETAF-AF, expressed his appreciation for GAF's collaboration and support from the U.S. Embassy. He welcomed participants to this next stage of training, which he described as realistic and rigorous, aimed at addressing regional security challenges. Chief McCarthy elaborated that this course would provide insights into U.S. intelligence methodologies to facilitate reforms and actionable intelligence through advanced modules. He further expressed his commitment to fostering a safe and productive training environment while reinforcing mutual bilateral relations between both countries.
