UK Advanced Command and Staff College Course 28 Students Visit Army Headquarters

A delegation from the UK Advanced Command and Staff College (ACSC) Course 28, led by the Divisional Director Captain (RN) Charlie Yemm and supporting staff, visited the Army Headquarters at Burma Camp on Monday, 28 April 2025.

The visit formed part of a five-day study tour to Ghana, aimed at deepening the group’s understanding of strategic institutions and security operations in the country. The 42 students from 13 different nations learned about the Army’s constitutional role in national security responsibilities and regional stability efforts.

Chief G3 Operations at the Army Headquarters, Colonel ELS Gyedu, briefed the delegation on current security threats, Ghana’s security strategies, and ongoing internal security operations.

Prior to the briefing, the group paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu. Major General Gbetanu welcomed the delegation, highlighted the strong military partnership between Ghana and the UK, and expressed appreciation for the UK’s long standing support and training initiatives, which have significantly benefited Ghanaian forces.

He emphasized the value of such exchanges, noting that they offer opportunities to share perspectives on addressing Africa’s security challenges. As a token of appreciation, COAS presented Captain Yemm with a commemorative plaque and a customized Ghana Army Kente stole.

Captain Yemm, on behalf of the ACSC, thanked the COAS and Army Headquarters staff for their hospitality and the insights shared. She noted that the visit provided valuable knowledge about the Ghana Army’s internal operations and the breadth of its current engagements.

The Acting Chief Staff Officer of the Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Kweku Dankwa Hagan, along with other principal staff officers, also addressed questions from the students, further clarifying Ghana’s defence and security strategies.
