UN Security Council Military Staff Committee Visits Ghanaian Battalion in Southern Lebanon

A high-level delegation from the United Nations Security Council Military Staff Committee visited the Ghanaian Battalion's Area of Responsibility (AOR) in Southern Lebanon on Friday, 28 March 2025.

The leader of the Eleven-member team was Colonel Bryan Perry Dunn. The Team aimed to assess the security situation within the Battalion's AOR, focusing on UN Position 1-0A (UNP 1-0A) and Patrol Base HIN (PB HIN).

At UNP 1-0A, The Team was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel IK Boako, Commanding Officer of the Ghanaian Battalion. The delegation was briefed on the current security situation within the AOR.

The Team conducted a thorough assessment of the damage caused to the Battalion's vehicles during the Wednesday 23 October 2024 attack on GHANBATT medical convoy in Yarin. They also inspected roadblocks that hamper operations of the unit as well as damages to the Northern perimeter fence and observation post at PB HIN. Additionally, the team evaluated the proximity of an Israeli Defense Forces Forward Operating Base (FOB) within the Ghanaian Battalion's AOR.

Colonel Dunn commended Lt Col Boako for his exemplary leadership, while the Commanding Officer assured the team of the Ghanaian Battalion's commitment to achieving the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The visit demonstrated the United Nation’s continued efforts to ensure peace and stability in the Middle East, with the Military Staff Committee playing a crucial role in advising and assisting the Security Council on military matters.
