The United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) has continued its commitment to supporting the host community through a collaborative medical outreach organized by the Nigeria Base Defense Company and the Ghana Level II Plus Hospital.
The outreach, held in Abyei town, on Friday 12 September 2025, was aimed at providing accessible healthcare, raising awareness on preventive medicine and strengthening the bond between UNISFA and the local population. Hundreds of residents benefited from free consultations, basic treatment, health education and referral services.
Speaking at the event, Lieutenant Colonel MZ Dikko, Commanding Officer of the Nigeria Base Defence Company, emphasized the importance of community engagement in UNISFA’s mandate.
He noted, “Our presence here goes beyond peacekeeping; it is about building trust and supporting the people of Abyei through humanitarian assistance”.
Similarly, Naval Captain KO Nsaful, Commanding Officer of the Ghana Level II Plus Hospital, highlighted the medical team’s role in promoting health and well-being. He further indicated that the outreach was a reflection of UNISFA’s dedication to preventive healthcare, early intervention and collaboration with the host community for a healthier future.
The exercise reinforced the mission’s broader goal of fostering peace, security and development in the Abyei area, while addressing pressing health needs within the community.
