The Ghanaian Battalion 12 (GHANBATT 12) together with the Ghana Formed Police Unit Rotation 9 (GHANFPU 9) serving with the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), has marked Ghana’s 68th Independence Anniversary with a vibrant parade on Thursday 6 March 2025 at the GHANBATT Headquarters in Bentiu.
The Reviewing Officer and Commanding Officer of GHANBATT 12, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Godfred Asampong in his remarks, praised troops for their dedication to maintaining peace and protecting civilians as part of UNMISS mandate. He emphasized that the anniversary was not only to celebrate Ghana's independence but also served as a moment to reflect on the sacrifices made by the country’s forefathers.
Lt Col Asampong also stressed Ghana's ongoing commitment to Global Peace and Security through her contributions to United Nations missions. He encouraged both GHANBATT and GHANFPU personnel to continue to be good ambassadors of Ghana in South Sudan, leaving a positive impression in our Area of Operational Responsibility. He further urged them to embody the professionalism and dedication for which Ghana is known, as well as uphold values of peace, discipline, and selflessness.
The colourful event was attended by dignitaries from Sector Unity, representatives from the various United Nations humanitarian agencies and personnel from other troop contributing countries within sector unity.
