The 10 Mechanised Infantry Battalion (10 Mech) held a thanksgiving religious parade on Sunday 25 January 2026, at Aggrey Barracks, Wa, to mark the successful completion of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) by UNMISS GHANBATT 12. Held under the theme “The blessing in Thanksgiving”, the service was attended by dignitaries and personnel from the unit and the Northern Command of the Ghana Army.
In his address as Guest of Honour, the Upper West Regional Minister, the Honourable (Hon) Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Esq, expressed gratitude to God for the safe return of the troops, noting that despite the mission’s volatility and demands, the contingent upheld the highest standards of professionalism and selfless sacrifice.
The Minister commended 10 Mech for its pivotal role in maintaining peace and security in the Upper West Region, highlighting that its collaboration with civil authorities has significantly bolstered public confidence. Hon Charles Lwanga Puozuing, Esq, honoured the outgoing Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Godfred Asampong, for his exemplary leadership and dedicated service, while welcoming the incoming Commanding Officer, Lt Col James Bampoe Palmer, with an assurance of the region’s full support.
In his address, Lt Col Asampong expressed profound humility and gratitude to God for the successful tour of duty under the UNMISS mandate. He noted that despite the hostile and austere conditions in South Sudan, the battalion executed its mandate with discipline and teamwork, upholding the reputation of the Ghana Armed Forces.
Lt Col Asampong recognised officers and men who remained at home, maintained the Unit’s administration, and supported the families of deployed soldiers. He expressed absolute confidence in the incoming Commanding Officer and urged all ranks to extend their unwavering loyalty and professionalism to the new command.
Key among the dignitaries who graced the occasion were the General Officer Commanding Northern Command, Brigadier General Franklyn Worlanyo Kwasi Agbebo, Heads of the Regional Sister Security Services, and senior officers from Northern Command Headquarters.
