A delegation from the Veteran Administration, Ghana (VAG) led by the Chairman of VAG Governing Board, Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo (rtd), paid a courtesy call on the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu at the Army Headquarters on Wednesday 03 September, 2025.
The purpose of their visit was to congratulate COAS on his appointment, introduce the new executives and to encourage him to continue supporting the Veteran Administration, Ghana.
Rear Admiral Peter Kofi Faidoo (rtd) expressed appreciation to the COAS for his warm reception. He stated that, the Veteran Administration, Ghana is the last unit for every serving personnel after retirement but they have realized that their members are just few.
Stressing the fact that the Poppy Appeal is one of the means by which VAG raises funds for its administration, he appealed to COAS to ensure that every serving personnel wears the poppy with pride when launched.
The Executive Director of VAG and a member of the Governing Board, Brigadier General Seidu Mumuni Adams (rtd) highlighted some issues including health challenges encountered by Veterans, differences between Retired Commissioned Officers Association (RCOA) and Veterans Administration, Ghana ( VAG), the need to bridge some pension disparities, and the encroachment on VAG lands.
In response, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu thanked the delegation for the visit and congratulated Rear Admiral Faidoo (rtd) on his new appointment in VAG. He further assured them of efforts being made by the Military High Command to address concerns of VAG.
Additionally, the COAS disclosed that, a Committee had been set up to come up with a strategic plan for the Ghana Army and would be calling on members of VAG for inputs.
As a symbol of appreciation for the visit, Major General Gbetanu presented a Ghana Army customised plaque and an undisclosed amount of money to Rear Admiral Faidoo (rtd) as a token to VAG.
Present at the meeting were the Chief Staff Officer at the Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Lloyd Atror, Deputy Chief Staff Officer (Administration), Brigadier General Alfred Botsoe, Acting Sergeant Major of the Army, Senior Warrant Officer Class I Dogbatse G and some members of VAG.
