Canada’s resident Defence Attaché (DA) in Ghana, Lt Col Charles Palmer has paid a familiarization visit to Headquarters Southern Command, Kpeshie Ridge on Tuesday 17 September 2024.
The visit was for the DA to formally introduce himself to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Brig Gen Samuel Yeboah Asare and create an enabling environment to foster cohesion between the Canadian and Ghanaian Armed Forces.It was also for him to acquaint himself with the Southern Command set up in the areas of deployments, roles and responsibilities in its area of operations.Lt Col Charles palmer first paid a courtesy call on the GOC, Brig Gen SY Asare, where discussions were held on the mutual relations between both armies from time immemorial, including when Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah invited Canadian Military Officers to help establish the Ghana Military Academy and train some of the pioneer batches of officers for the Ghana Armed Forces.Discussions were also held on issues related to training, logistics support and intelligence sharing which will inure to the mutual advantage of both countries.The Commanding Officer (CO) Headquarters Southern Command (Camp), Lt Col William Opoku gave a presentation on the organisation and roles of the Command to the DA after which deliberations were held between the DA and Staff Officers of the Command.4 Garrison Education Centre Holds Awards for Staff
