COAS Commissions Completed Projects at JWS

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has on Thursday, 22 August 2024 commissioned three completed projects at the Seth Anthony Barracks, Jungle Warfare School (JWS), Akim-Achiase in the Eastern Region.

The projects included a 10-Unit Accommodation for Officers, funded by the Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (GOPDC), a newly constructed Guards Rest Room at the main gate of the School, funded by the Bank of Ghana (BOG), and a multipurpose hall, which was financed by the CEO of Memphis Metropolitan Limited, Mr Patrick Kwame Danso.

In his address, Maj Gen Onwona expressed his gratitude for being invited to JWS for the second time this year and was impressed by the infrastructural developments in the School. He took the opportunity to inspect ongoing construction of a medical laboratory and a female ward for the Medical Centre of the School, as well as a completed self-help sports centre christened ‘Yaache Sports Centre’. The COAS emphasized the Ghana Armed Forces' (GAF) and Government's commitment to addressing infrastructural challenges to elevate the School to one of the best army training institutions globally.

He acknowledged the efforts of the Commanding Officer of JWS, Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Jacob Cudjoe, for his dedication to enhancing the School's standards to accommodate more Officers, Soldiers, and Defence Civilian Staff effectively.

On behalf of the GAF High Command and the government, the COAS thanked the institutions, corporate bodies, and Chiefs in Akim-Achiase for their unwavering support towards projects in the School and encouraged continued collaboration for further development in the School.

As a final point, Maj Gen Onwona advised all personnel of the School to take good care of the new infrastructure, highlighting that proper care and maintenance would ensure the longevity of these structures.

The CO, Lt Col Cudjoe, honoured the COAS with a customised miniature tiger to welcome him into the Jungle fraternity. The CO as a sign of appreciation gave customised Jungle Warfare School plaques to the Deputy Chief Staff Officer, Operations and Training at the Army Headquarters Brigadier General Kweku Dankwah Hagan, GOPDC, and Memphis Metropolitan Limited for their significant contributions to growth in the school.
