Ghana Army Sports Teams Maintain Stellar Performances

SHARE The Ghana Army Sports Teams continue to raise the flag of the Army lofty, with the Army Men and Ladies Volleyball Teams sweeping gold awards at the GELDEX VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT played at the El-Wak Sports Stadium, Accra, in the January-July 2023 sporting season.In the track events, Army Athletes won 43 medals in 3 major competitions organised by the Ghana Athletics Association, which were the National Cross Country, 1st and 2nd National Open Championships and the Final Athletics Open National Championship.Additionally, the Army Table Tennis Team won 4 Gold, a Silver and 4 Bronze medals in the SHEROES CHAMPIONSHIP at the Accra Sports Stadium, Tamale Open in Tamale, the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) – Power Series I and II at the Accra Sports Stadium, and the GTTA Series III Competition.The Chief Staff Officer (CSO), Army – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Barima Brako Owusu, on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), on Thursday 6 July 2023, commended the Teams for making the Army Command proud with their excellent performance, and urged the teams to continue to strive to stay at the top through hard training, discipline and professionalism, in order to remain relevant.Inspiringly, the Captain of the Army Ladies Volleyball Team – Corporal (Cpl) Rashaka Katadat has been scouted to play professionally in Malta, Europe.The teams presented team awards to the COAS, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, on the sidelines of the Conference of the COAS, General Officers Commanding and Brigade Commanders, hence the Generals took turns to decorate the gallant athletes with their individual medals and trophies.
