The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei has paid operational visits to 11 Mechanized Battalion and the Joint Task Force Unit in Bawku. The visit which occurred on Friday 1 November 2024 saw the GOC paying courtesy call on the Upper East Regional Minister – Honourable Hafiz Bin Salih and heads of various Sister Security Services in the Upper East Region. The GOC expressed his appreciation to the Regional Minister and the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) for their continuous support and the role they played during the recent escalation of the conflict at Walewale and Bawku. The GOC, as part of his operational visit, interacted with the Deputy Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Martin Appiah and troops from the Military and Police deployed at Walewale and Bawku. He commended the troops for their professionalism and swift responses towards the recent Bawku crisis. He further conveyed Military High Command’s commendation to all ranks for the professionalism exhibited in dealing with the situation and advised them to remain neutral in the discharge of their duties. He assured them of Military High Command’s continuous provision of logistics support to enhance their safety and operations and encouraged them to continue to give of their best in restoring calm and peace in Bakwu, in particular and the Upper East Region as a whole. The Regional Minister reiterated the sacrifices made by the military to restore calm and stability in Bawku and its environs and further noted that security is a cooperative effort involving all security services, the government and the general citizenry. The Joint Task Force Commander - Colonel Yaw Owusu Appah, conducted the GOC round all the positions in Bakwu, in a tour which took the form of Show-of-Force, assuring the people of Bawku of their protection and safety. Present during the visit were the Commander Rear 11 Mech Bn, Lt Col Kakrah Sasu-Antwi, Commanding Officer 12 Mech Bn, Lt Col Fredrick Amankwah and Staff Officers from the Headquarters Northern Command.
