World War two Veteran Presents Autobiography to COAS

A World War Two (WWII) Veteran, Ex Warrant Officer l (Ex WO l) Joseph Ashitey Hammond has presented an autobiography to the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona when he visited on Tuesday, 15 October 2024 at the Army Headquarters in Burma Camp.

 

The autobiography titled,  “ World War Two Veteran, Joseph Ashitey Hammond of the Royal West African Regiment", highlights the immense contribution of Africans in WWII which are largely unknown, as well as the courage of soldiers who suffered through the harrowing experiences of the war.

 

Presenting the autobiography, Ex WO I Hammond indicated that it was a gift from him to the COAS for his reading pleasure and retention for his generations. He thanked him for the warm reception and asked for the Lord’s blessing in all his endeavours.

 

COAS in response expressed his sincere appreciation to the veteran and acknowledged him as a legend to learn a lot from. He also assured him of High Command's assistance to make his dream of leaving a legacy in the Ghana Armed Forces come into fruition.
