6 Infantry Battalion ends Operation Peace Trail Training

The 6 Infantry Battalion held a high-impact simulation exercise, codenamed 'EXERCISE KAAMU', to culminate the pre-deployment training for Operation Peace Trail on Wednesday, 30 October 2024. The exercise, designed to test troops on their preparedness towards the 2024 upcoming general elections, evaluated their responses to various scenarios, including real-time situations, inter-agency coordination, crowd control, and media engagement strategies. During the exercise, troops participated in deliberate vehicle checkpoint operations, crowd dispersal techniques, and simulated media interactions. These scenarios were carefully structured to mirror potential real-life situations troops may encounter in maintaining internal security during the upcoming elections. At the closing ceremony, the 6 Garrison Commander and the Base Commander Air Force Base Tamale, Air Commodore Joshua Mensah-Larkai congratulated the participants for successfully completing the training and praised them for their sacrifices and efforts exhibited throughout the training. He advised them to remain united, work as a team in protecting the country and always be professional in their craft.The General Officer Commanding (GOC) Northern Command, Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei, commended the participants for their commitment and diligence throughout the training. He encouraged them to apply their newfound skills responsibly during their deployment, urging them to remain non-partisan and to conduct all operations with fairness and integrity.Brig Gen Tei underscored the importance of avoiding sensationalism and maintaining the highest standards of conduct and discipline before, during, and after the elections. The Commanding Officer 6 Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Jerry Ankuyi, in his remarks, reaffirmed the battalion’s reputation as a modern training hub dedicated to excellence. He urged the participants to carry the mantle of peace with pride, reminding them of their dual role as both citizens and uniformed personnel entrusted with safeguarding the nation. He charged them to be ambassadors of peace. The Northern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police Mr Eric Winful in a speech delivered on his behalf commended the collaboration between the military and police throughout the training. He expressed optimism that, this joint training would not only build the troops' skills and confidence but would also strengthen the inter-agency cooperation necessary for a secure election.
