The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, held an interactive session with personnel of the Army Sports Teams on Friday, 16 May 2025, at the Margaret Marfo Auditorium, 41 Defence Signal Regiment.
The purpose of the meeting was to introduce himself following his recent assumption of office, acknowledge the teams’ outstanding performances, and provide a platform for personnel to voice their concerns regarding their sporting activities.
In his remarks, the COAS noted that he had received a comprehensive briefing on the Ghana Army’s sporting activities. He commended the efforts of his predecessors, highlighting the numerous accolades earned and the strong foundation laid over the years.
Major General Gbetanu emphasized the detailed insights he received about the various sports disciplines, the impressive haul of trophies and medals from tournaments since 2021, and the teams’ commendable participation in the 13th African Games hosted in Ghana, the African Military Games in Nigeria, as well as other international competitions.
Expressing pride in their achievements, he encouraged the teams to maintain their high standards. He also acknowledged the challenges and concerns raised during the interaction and assured that the Military High Command would provide the necessary support to address these issues, enabling the teams to excel further in their respective sports.
On behalf of the Sports Teams, Volleyball Coach WO I Ernest Asante expressed gratitude to the COAS for the opportunity to engage directly with him. He pledged that the teams would continue to work collaboratively to build on their successes and achieve greater accomplishments in the future.
